July 14th

there was once a time where we used to sleep in different beds.

the mattress was small and fragile, like our frail, little bodies, but warm and soft, like our big hearts.

as the years went by, and our hearts and bodies grew, our beds did with us.

no longer able to fit the size of a twin, we bought fulls.

but in college, we went back to twins. our bodies didn't shrink to fit that size again, but our hearts might've.

somehow, though, we found our way to each other.

we didn't let our twin beds and small hearts ruin our chance at finding love.

and that's exactly what we did.

and all those years later, the two twins became one queen; one whole.

for years, we slept in the same bed. shared the same body, same heart.

and then something happened.

you didn't crawl under the covers with me, you didn't hide from the world with the one person you knew would do you no wrong.

you weren't there in that queen bed, laying down, sharing my body and my heart.

you were in a twin.

half full, and half empty.

and you showed up the next day, thinking I didn't know, but I did.

and so now, we don't share a bed anymore. or a body, or a heart.

we remember everything, but those twin beds we've gone back to have done nothing but reduce the size of our hearts.

our bodies, though; they still know. and they won't ever forget.
